Alice said that that the happiest day of her life was the day she started school. She was now a big girl entering a big world: school uniform, bag, pencils, it was all a sign of growing up. Alice loved the company of others and gained pure satisfaction from learning. She was highly artistic and her writing was a delight. At the age of 7 her youngest brother, Robert, was born. Alice was crazy about Robert. She loved bathing him with me and we spent such happy times watching him splashing about in the bath. She was a tremendous help to me and it was at this time she drew a picture of herself as a Mum with the caption "Jannali the Mummy". We changed the children's school because of our concerns that they were not getting the pastoral care they deserved. It was around this time, when she was 10 years old, that she requested her name be changed from "Jannali" to "Alice": she found having a name that was unusual was causing her grief at school. We supported her decision and so her name was changed by deed poll.
